Richard L. Peterson MD
Dr. Peterson has spent his career working at the intersection of mind and markets with the goal of improving the results (and lives) of investors and advisors. At MarketPsych LLC he trains his financial industry clients to improve their emotion management, self-understanding, and client relationships using modern psychological techniques.
Richard Peterson’s book Inside the Investor's Brain (Wiley, 2007) was called "outstanding" and "a seminal text" on investment psychology by Barrons. Dr. Peterson is frequently featured in the media including appearances on CBS Evening News, CNBC, NPR, BBC, PBS, and the Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Peterson has cum laude undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Arts and a Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) from the University of Texas. He performed postdoctoral neuroeconomics research at Stanford University and is Board-certified in Psychiatry.
In addition to training investors, Dr. Peterson is himself a registered investment advisor and portfolio manager for MarketPsy Capital LLC, where he manages their quantitative market-neutral long-short investment fund. Additionally, Dr. Peterson has developed popular financial personality tests, published in academic journals and textbooks, is an associate editor of the Journal of Behavioral Finance, and is on the Educational Advisory Board of the Market Technicians Association.
Dr. Peterson's second book MarketPsych: Overcoming Market Fear and Discovering Your Investor Identity was co-authored with MarketPsych’s Dr. Frank Murtha and was named a "Top Financial Book of 2010" by Kiplinger's.
