The Loudest Terms in Tech Aren’t Trending

The most talked-about technology concepts are not the trending ones: “AI” runs at just 1.1x its yearly average and “Bitcoin” at 0.6s. This week the surge shifted to US AI labs: the Hugging Face x OpenAI hacking story, an AMD × Anthropic compute deal, and fresh model launches (Gemini 3.5 Pro; GPT 5.6). Moonshot AI is running 45–90x above baseline Buzz.

In the plot below “AI” and “Bitcoin” sit far to the right (high Buzz) but hug the dashed break-even line because they are not significantly buzz-ier than over the past year. The surging (high acceleration) stories are high on the y-axis.

Plotting tech terms by how loud they are (this week's daily buzz vs over the past year) separates the ongoing themes from the surges.
