A Year of Media Coverage on the AI Boom
What does a year of media coverage say about the AI hardware boom?
We analyzed news, social media, and earnings-call transcripts for 29 companies from chip designers to server builders and data centers using our #MCPs. Five findings:
• Media sentiment cooled in June but stayed positive.
• 85% of these companies discussed the cost of running AI on their latest earnings calls. Executives brought it up 126 times; analysts asked about it 7 times.
• Executives sounded more confident reading prepared remarks (+0.77 on a -1 to +1 scale) than answering live questions (+0.43).
• The media treats cheaper tokens as good news for processor companies (TSMC, Intel, NVIDIA) and problematic for memory and server sellers (Micron, Dell).
• Individual investors on social media are more skeptical than the financial press.
